5. lamp shades

An old or misfit shade can really date a room.  Many underestimate the impact a wrong sized shade or dated pedestal can have on a room.  You want a color that pops in a neutral room or is neutral to have an impact on the atmosphere.

Speakin of lamps, choose the appropriate wattage for the room it is placed in.  Don't choose too bright of wattage for a bedroom for example.  nly place brighter lights (100 watts) in reading lamps, kitchens, and hallways, otherwise choose 60 watts. In other words, remember the power of light and strike the right balance.  Another idea is to add a dimmer.  So simple and can give you a variety of lighting options.  

4. crown molding

The bigger the better when selecting crown.  Adding it to any room where the ceilings and walls meet 90 degrees quickly adds elegance and substance. It really finishes and elevates the room. Think elegant like this or standard, clean, for a strong regal look.
